Arsen Dedić ~ Homo Volans

Originally released as a double LP (1974) this album even today receives numerous negative critics. This was the time when Arsen decided to leave the pop mainstream and show us his genius as a first rate poet. This album is less about music, but much more about the poetry, although classics such as "Tvoje nježne godine", "Ana je Ana" and "Ti se smiješ" are there just to remind us that Arsen will always remain faithful to his chanson and ballads. The arrangements done by M. Prohaska (known in European jazz circles as a composer/bass player and arranger) add a new sinister dimension to Arsen's potent lyrics and expression. The implications that this album might have damaged Arsen's career could be dismissed on the grounds that back in 1974 this album sold over 30.000 copies and earned it a "Silver Disc" reward. Selling 30.000 double albums, in 1974, in former Yugoslavia, was an extraordinary achievement. Moreover, this album saw a CD reissue which, in the long run, confirms the value of this very ambitious and successful effort!
